Just arrived: Pretty Polly 150 Denier Matt 3D Tights and 120 Denier 3D Shine Tights

Iconic British hosiery brand Pretty Polly recently launched their brand new "premium opaque" tights collection.

One of our recommended (and favourite) retailers UK Tights, told Hosiery For Men about the new range.

They have now sent us a pair of the Pretty Polly 150 Denier Matt 3D Tights

and also a pair of the Pretty Polly 120 Denier 3D Shine Tights

Stay tuned for reviews.

Thermal Tights Recommendations

We have recently had several requests by email from readers wanting recommendations for warm and thermal tights suitable for men.

Has it got anything to do with the freezing weather this December?

Here are five recommendations from five different retailers from the UK and Ireland.

Falke Warm Deluxe 80 Thermal Tights

These tights from Luxury Legs have a plush internal lining and provide a wonderful fit. Falke tights come in great sizing options. If you are tall guy then the Extra Large should work a treat.

They are also available as Falke Warm Deluxe 80 Thermal Leggings if you prefer a version without the foot.

Second choice are the Pretty Polly 200 Denier Fleecy Opaque Tights.

These are available from Tights Tights Tights.

200 denier soft tights with a warm fleecy lining.

Next up are the Gatta Rosalia 300 Denier Micro Fleece Opaque Tights available at Dress My Legs.

Their matte and opaque finish provides excellent coverage, while the latest microfleece technology keeps your legs warm, yet allows enough airflow not to become overheated indoors.

From UK Tights we recommend the Oroblu Warm and Soft Tights.

These are 100 denier with a soft, warm brushed polar fleece on the inside.

Finally we couldn't leave out something really luxurious from Wolford. The Tight Spot have the wonderful Wolford Merino Tights.

The high merino wool content offers unrivalled comfort whilst the moisture-absorbent properties of the wool also create a pleasant temperature for your skin. Wolford's Merino Tights feature a comfortable knitted waistband, a virgin wool gusset and a reinforced toe, sole and heel for greater wear.

Introducing Sabrina’s Hosiery Boutique

We love to feature new and developing hosiery businesses on the Hosiery For Men blog.

We hope that in doing so it provides visibility for entrepreneurs who are really passionate about their business.

Passionate and committed are words that you would use to describe Sabrina Carter, the owner of Sabrina's Hosiery Boutique, and inline hosiery store based in the USA.

We recently spoke to Sabrina. We hope you enjoy our interview with her.

Can you tell Hosiery For Men readers something about Sabrina’s Hosiery Boutique

Well, I started off in this business for two reasons. First of all, I love great quality hosiery and second I had a bad experience from a seller on eBay who I used to buy from a lot. The person was very rude and I did not agree with the way he treated me. I thought if I ran a business I would treat all customers with respect and try my best to get them what they want.

When did the business start?

I opened in 2016. It has been a very slow year for me. I cannot carry all the styles I want because my sales are not at a point I can order all the styles in. I hope this article helps boost my business so I can carry a wider variety for my clients.

What is the main concept behind the boutique

To bring quality European hosiery to customers in the US who may have never tried them. Women in the US have pretty much given up on pantyhose. Ever since the 90’s they have worn them less and less. American hosiery isn’t the best quality.

I discovered European hosiery quite by accident, I was reading an article in the late 1990’s in Cosmo and there was this model and her legs looked stunning, at the end of the article it said she was wearing Wolford. I tried them, and I loved them. I thought if all pantyhose looked and felt this good, women would start wearing them again. I started trying other European brands, and through trial and error I have my favorites. Which I am lucky enough to sell 4 out of the 5 brands in my store!

The website says that you focus on European hosiery brands. Can you tell us more about the current range of tights and pantyhose brands available at Sabrina’s Hosiery Boutique?

I began wearing European hosiery well over a decade ago. I mainly shopped online as most were not available in the US in stores at the time. I loved them, the fit, the quality, and the appearance are light years ahead of American hosiery manufacturing. At present I carry Oroblu, Trasparenze, Cecilia de Rafael and Gio.

I some day hope to be successful enough to carry Wolford as well. I like carrying hosiery that will not only make a person look good but feel good as well. I don’t get that feeling from opening up a crumpled pair of L'eggs.

There is always quite a lot of media interest in the subject of tights for men. What are your thoughts about the greater visibility of men buying and wearing tights?

I am for it. In fact the majority of my customers are male at the moment. Here in the US more men wear pantyhose than women which is why I try my best to always have the larger sizes in stock. I sell my large and extra large sizes at a rate of 10-1 over smalls and mediums.

If men shopping at my site have a question I do my best to answer them quickly and with respect. I am not going to make a client feel bad because society thinks you should not do this. The way I see it women wear mens clothes every day, calling them “women’s jeans” makes it okay in society. Men should be able to wear hosiery too in the same way.

Do you have many male customers?

I do, dozens of them, and I love having them shop with me. I stock mainly the larger sizes and try to have them in all colors so that my male customers have a choice. I always try to carry what they ask for, and will special order tights for them that they want to try.

What are male customers buying?

The male customers are mainly buying the Cecilia de Rafael Zafiro opaques and the Cecilia de Rafael Malaga ultra sheer.

My female customers usually buy the Oroblu. Gio is split about 50/50.

Some men love wearing stockings and I have the best price on Fully Fashioned at the moment, even less than Gio’s actual website as of this morning. I carry many of the tall and extra tall sizes for men though in every brand so I hope they try something different.

To men thinking about trying tights, what would you say are the main benefits of wearing them?

Well, since winter is coming, warmth comes to mind. That is why I have been selling a lot of opaques. Tights are also very stylish.

From the current range in stock, what tights and pantyhose do you recommend to men this autumn/winter season?

Well, you can’t go wrong with any of them. The Cecilia de Rafael Zafiro is always a good bet.

However, I also carry several sheer styles that are perfect for the colder weather too, like my Oroblu Club 20 and Trasparenze Oleandro. The Trasparenze I have in stock in almost every color too so I can match any outfit and skin tone!

What are you planning for the future at Sabrina’s Hosiery Boutique

Well, my goal (and being a small shop I have yet to reach it) is to be able to carry more brands, such as Wolford, so that my clients have more choices available. I wish we still lived in an age where having a brick and mortar store was feasible because I would love to be able to sell hosiery full time!

I would love to expand my Oroblu and Cecilia de Rafael lines as well, but in order to do this I need more sales so I can order more products. It will be a long road, but hopefully in the end a rewarding one. My competition on eBay sells about 700 pair a month, I would love to reach those numbers and be able to stock more of what all my clients want, especially my

male clients. Don’t be afraid to shop with me, I am 100 per cent for you being able to wear what you love!

Thanks for speaking to Hosiery For Men Sabrina. We hope readers will check out your hosiery store.

You can connect to Sabrina's Hosiery Boutique on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and also visit the boutique here.

There is a special offer for Hosiery For Men readers - free domestic shipping (USA orders, f
irst class package with tracking) on any order over $30.00. Just enter code HFM17 at checkout. This is valid until the end of January 2017, and means there is plenty of time if you want Sabrina to order something in particular.

Reviewed: Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights

The Travel Leg Support Tights by Wolford are a new addition to their Shape & Control range.

They were launched this autumn and UK Tights were keen for us to trial and review them.

Packaging

The packaging is pretty standard for Wolford. The tights are folded around a rectangular card that features a range of Wolford hosiery, clothes and shapewear.

The tights are then held by a card foldover which is then enclosed in a cellophane envelope.

Material and features

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are, I believe, the first tights that Wolford have created to enhance comfort when travelling that might involve flying, or standing or sitting down for long periods.

Wolford describe them as follows:

"These matt tights with a delicate pattern support the areas of your body that matter, and ensure comfort when standing or sitting down for long periods. The knitted heel guarantees a precise fit, and the toes are reinforced for long-term wear. The knitted waistband is wonderfully soft and provides a perfect fit."

The tights are made from 82% Polyamide and 18% Elastane.

As soon as you take the tights from the packaging you notice how light they are. Not heavy and bulky like some compression hosiery. This is a plus in itself as if you pack them for travel they take up hardly any space and weigh hardly anything at all.

The Travel Leg Support tights have a matt appearance. They look like 40-50 denier.

The tights are sheer to waist with the pattern extending right up to the waistband.

The brief is deep and has a gusset. Seams are flat and expertly engineered as you would expect from Wolford. The waistband is 3cm wide and is soft and comfortable. The rear of the waistband has a Wolford label sewn in.

Additional specific features of these tights are the reinforced toes (much denser reinforcement than what most tights provide) and the knitted heel. Both provide durability and protect against the wear expected when travelling for long periods.

The tights have a really unique and elegant pattern.

Sizing, fit and wearing experience

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are available in four sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • XL

We trialled them in the XL size.

The Wolford XL size always work so well for this reviewer and there no was exception here.

As with all tights with some compression, you need to take your time when putting them on to make sure that you get even coverage. In this case also, you will want to make sure that the toes and knitted heel sit in the right place.

Be careful with nails and even with any rough skin on your hands as this will catch on the tights quite easily.

Once in place, the tights provider what feels like light to medium support along the whole of the leg. There is no feeling of constriction or tightness, just a warm slightly firm caress on the leg that feels wonderful.

The high Elastane content (18%) provides a really super fit on the leg and these tights stay right in place all day.

The brief is nice and deep (as with all Wolford styles; one of the reasons we love them so much) and fits snugly over the waist.

Colour range

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are available in three colours:

  • Black
  • Anthracite
  • Midnight

We wore them in the Black shade.

Price

At UK Tights, the Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights retail for £24.99.

Conclusion

The Travel Leg Support Tights are a welcome addition to the Wolford Shape & Control range.

They are light, easy to wear, durable and provide a moderate amount of leg support.

If you are looking for a warmer, denser support opaque from Wolford we recommend the Velvet 66 Leg Support Tights. These are more expensive but are an absolutely superb product - at the moment they are my favourite Wolford opaques and I already have three pairs of them. These are also described as 'medium support' but in my experience they provide more support and compression than the Travel Leg Support Tights that are reviewed here.

For lighter support, and when the weather is cool and not too cold, the Travel Leg Support Tights are recommended.

Reviewed: Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights

Hosiery brand Pamela Mann sent us opaque tights from their Plus Size range to trial and review.

Pamela Mann was established in 1956, and are a well know British hosiery brand. Their legwear is manufactured in Europe but all final production phases - embellishing, printing and packing - take place in-house.

Alongside the Pamela Mann brand, they also offer a comprehensive range of 'own label' hosiery to many retailers on the UK high street.

We previously reviewed the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights.

We now focus on the Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights.

Materials and features

The Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights are part of Pamela Mann's extensive range of plus size tights and other legwear.

Pamela Mann describe these tights as follows:

"120 denier opaque tights provide a dark thick coverage of the leg, ideal for colder seasons. Our opaque tights are a high quality due to the use of 3D yarn, knitted together to add extra endurance and elasticity of the tight."

The tights are packaged very simply. They are folded and then enclosed in a card clasp.

The 3D yarn, which is made from 94% Nylon and 6% Elastane. They are Italian-made, which is already a good pointer to the quality on offer.

The tights have a smooth, soft feel with a slight shine when caught in the light. As described by Pamela Mann, the tights a high level of elasticity.

Key features are:

  • 120 denier. The opaque coverage is dense, even and complete.
  • Deep panty/brief with a rear comfort panel in both sizes tried. Seams are conventional
  • Sheer to waist.
  • 5cm wide waistband.
  • Reinforced toes
Fit and sizing

The Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights are available in four sizes:

  • One size
  • 16-18
  • 20-26
  • 28-32

I tried these tights in the two sizes that Pamela Mann sent Hosiery For Men: 20-26 and 28-32.

The sizing information indicates that they will fit heights of up to 5'10". That is fine as that is exactly my height.

The fit was very good with both sizes. They were easy to put on and basically hug the legs providing a very moderate amount of compression.

There was a little bit of bunching at the knee when bent, but this is quite normal for a higher denier, thicker tight. And as you flex you leg again, this disappears and the tights mould themselves to the leg once more.

The brief is deep and comfortable. I found that after a bit of wear the waistband seemed to lose a little elasticity.

These tights are so easy and comfortable to wear.

I wore them on a cold day with shorts and they really keep my legs warm and cosy.

Colour range

The Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights are available in four colours

I trialled them in the Navy colour.

Price and availability

The Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights are priced at £8.99.

You can purchase them directly through the Pamela Mann website.

They are also available at UK Tights and The Tight Spot.

Conclusion

For just £8.99 the Pamela Mann 120 Denier 3D Plus Size Opaque Tights are simply great value.

The warm is soft, comfortable and stretchy. They provide total opaque coverage and feel great on.

As with our assessment of the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights, these are opaques that will work well for men who are up to 5'10" and perhaps slightly taller. I guarantee you will love how they feel and the warm, cosy insulation.
